The actress was caught by crying cameras during the award ceremony.
Anne Hathaway had a far too relevant reaction when she saw Barbra Streisand accepting the lifetime Achievement Award at the SAG Awards 2024 on Saturday.
When Streisand, 81, took the stage after the emotional presentations of Jennifer Aniston and Bradley Cooper, Netflix’s cameras flashed on Hathaway, 41, in the audience.
Hathaway-clearly overwhelmed by Aniston and Cooper’s beautiful words, as well as editing Streisand’s best moments of her prolific career-appeared with tears in her eyes as she watched the legendary Funny Girl star receive her flowers.
The Princess Diaries actress held back her tears and cheered fervently along with the other viewers, who gave Streisand a standing ovation for almost two minutes before she started speaking.
On social media, Hathaway’s reaction immediately became one of the most talked about moments of the night, with thousands of people swooning within minutes.
“Anne Hathaway sobs as Barbra Streisand takes the stage at the SAG Awards. recognize talent talent!”one person wrote on the social media platform X formerly known as Twitter.
“Anne Hathaway is SO gay #SAGAwards,” one person wrote, using side-by-side photos of Streisand on stage and Hathaway in the audience.
Hathaway’s emotional moment came after she herself took the stage along with her co-stars from the Devil wears prada, and presented Jeremy Allen White with the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy series for the Bear.
During the reunion, the actress stood side by side with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt, as they picked up the habits of their characters from the 2006 film, showed a little hostility to each other and recited Streep’s lines from the film.
“Meryl and Miranda Priestly are a bit like twins,” Blunt, 41, said on stage, commenting on Streep, 74, forgetting her glasses offstage.
“I don’t think I look like anything…”Streep began to answer.
“No, no,” Hathaway interrupted, quoting Streep’s character. “That was not a question.”
